Food, Exercise and Obesity are entwined issues. It has been said, "You are what you eat." Since our pets have no control over purchasing good foods, it is up to us to make sure they receive healthy balanced diets. Obesity, and its associated health problems, is on the rise in our pet population and it is up to us to rectify the problem!! Use allotted kibble as training treats to ensure no extra calories are fed. Also, consider using fruits and veggies like apple pieces, green beans, and carrot pieces. Counting calories , learning to eat differently and increased exercise are the keys to weight loss in animals and people. Many pets also need a prescription weight loss diet or a fresh food diet to help with weight loss. You can reduce calories BUT the more you reduce them the more you also reduce the nutrition they are supposed to get...this is why weight loss diets and fresh food diets are recommended for many pets. Also remember, "All you can eat buffets are not healthy for pets or people."
